Throughout the years as St Pete wedding photographers, we’ve come to love a few spots that are perfect locations for engagement photos in St Pete. A huge part of planning your wedding is getting engagement photos done!
Of course, each location is a little different than the other and will depend on what you’re looking for. We usually suggest to our couples to choose a location that gives off the same vibes as their wedding venue. That way your Save-the-Dates can be a little preview into your wedding day. A second location can either be a spot that means something to you as a couple or somewhere we can frolic and just have fun! And our final suggestion is to just throw out all our previous ones and do whatever the heck you want! Just let us know your vision and we’ll help you bring it to life!
So without further ado, (drum roll please) let’s get into our top 10 locations for engagement photos in St Pete 🙂
A newer location in St Pete for engagement photos is St Pete Pier. There are tons of spots throughout it, but this one spot in particular shown in the photos below is our favorite. It has all the modern, urban vibes and every time we’ve come to this spot, there was barely anyone around.
Whenever a couple tells us they want to have a beach engagement session, we recommend Fort De Soto. Not only is it a gorgeous, clean beach, but it’s usually not as packed as the other beaches here in St Pete. (Shy couples; we see you) This is probably because of the $5 entrance fee, but it is totally worth it! It also has roads lined with palm trees on either side and if you want a little hint of modern engagement photo vibes, this location has a pretty long cement staircase and pier. Oh, and let’s not forget the most important detail; puppers are welcome!
Ok, not sure if this has always been a thing. But, we feel like neon signs have recently been popping up EVERYWHERE and we’re not mad about it. If you’re wanting a more moody and unique engagement session in St Pete, we totally recommend neon signs. This one, in particular, is currently up in an alleyway on Beach Dr. Which is perfect because you don’t need to be inside a restaurant or bar being watched by people or be forced to pay for something before capturing some shots.
Downtown St Pete is full of parking garage rooftops to choose from. One thing we take into consideration when choosing one though is where the sun will be during the session. With all the construction going on, some spots we used to always go to without an issue now have a huge apartment building blocking the sun. But, with the help of an app we love to use, we can figure this out quickly.
So, technically, this location isn’t in St Pete, it’s in Tampa. But, it’s right at the end of the Howard Franklin Bridge; close enough, right? The reason we love this location for engagement sessions is because of the tall grass. If you’re looking for more of an open field, not a very Florida vibe, Cypress Point Park is perfect for you. It also has a small beach that is perfect for watching the sunset.
Located in Downtown St Pete, North Straub Park is a very popular spot for St Pete couples. It’s got the infamous white pergola with pink Bougainvilleas covering it year-round. There’s also a short walk with trees lining each side of the pavement with fairy lights. It’s also right by the bay perfect for waterfront photos. Oh, and if you’re a sweet tooth like Jenn, Paciugo’s is right across the street. You bet we’ll be asking you to join us for some gelato there afterward.
Philippe Park was actually a big go-to for us when we first started photographing engagement sessions. Located in Safety Harbor, it’s a gorgeous park full of different picture-perfect spots. The main attraction is def the enormous tree shown below.
This one requires a bit of trust and stamina lol. Trust, because when I suggest photos at a post office, the response is usually a very confused facial expression. But, when you see the photos below, you’ll understand. Stamina, because we’ll be walking quite a bit from spot to spot, but the results make for a unique session.
Another beach location that we can’t go without recommending is Sand Key Park in Clearwater. What makes it different is the many rocks trailing out into the ocean. They make for some dreamy golden hour photos if you’re willing to climb on them. It does get quite busy in the evenings with photographers, so patience and being ok in front of a lot of people are required.
This last one actually ends up being one of our favorites to do during engagement sessions. We recommend this even if it’s just for the last few or first few minutes of your session. If you’re extremely shy and not comfortable in front of the camera, planning your session at a spot you love going to or doing an activity you two always do together can make it so much easier. Instead of feeling like you’re getting photos taken, it feels more like a date night with your partner. This session is about you guys and your love, so make it whatever feels right!
The reason why Lake Louisa is considered a bonus spot is that it’s actually closer to Orlando than to St Pete, but it is honestly one of our top top favorite locations. The open fields, tall grass, and forest during golden hour just make for the dreamiest engagement photos. It honestly doesn’t even feel like we’re in Florida when we shoot there. There is a $5 fee per vehicle.
And there you have it guys! Those were our top 10 locations for engagement photos in St Pete. Hopefully one or more of these are what you were envisioning.
